Augusta University gained momentum entering Thursday's home opening Peach Belt Conference game against Georgia Southwestern with an 80-78 road win at UNC Pembroke Monday. Senior Keshun Sherrill scored 4 points in the final 29 seconds and Augusta was able to fight off a Pembroke comeback after the Jaguars built a 24 point second half lead with the help of a career high 15 points by sophomore Vlad Cobzaru.
Coach Dip Metress talked to me before Wednesday's practice in the interview above about the team's new substitution pattern, the 18-6 second half run the Cobzaru led "team B" used to build a big Jaguar lead Monday, and his team's defensive effort.
The Jaguars improved to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in league play. Augusta returns home for a two game home stand following a three game conference road trip in which Augusta lost two games in December against North Georgia and Columbus State.
