Senior Jason Weaver made the first three field goals of overtime to propel class AAAA's #4 ranked team Richmond to a 64-57 home win over #10 Baldwin in both teams' region 3 opener Tuesday. Weaver, fellow senior Moses Williams (20 points), and junior DT Stephens (21 points) combined to score 51 of the Musketeers 64 points. But it was junior Jacobi Wood's layup that tied the game at 52 an instant before the fourth quarter buzzer, forcing the extra period.
Before Wood's buzzer beating score, Baldwin had taken its first lead of the game, erasing a 10 point second half deficit and taking a 50-48 lead in the final minute of the fourth quarter after back-to-back three pointers by Torez Hicks and Rodney Walker. Donte Justice led the Braves with 13 points while Hicks and Brenden Robertson each chipped in 11.

Richmond took its biggest lead after a pair of baskets at the beginning of the third quarter gave the Musketeers a 31-21 advantage. Stephens and Williams, who combined to score 21 of Richmond's 27 first half points, carried the load through the end of regulation. The pair made 19 of their 31 field goal attempts and shot 15 free throws between them. Williams also grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.

Richmond coach Steve Nobles gave credit to Baldwin coach Buck Harris, who spent two years as Laney's head coach before leaving for Milledgeville before the beginning of last season:
"I'm just glad we got this win tonight. Buck brought his guys in prepared. They played well. It shows we've got a lot of work to keep up," sad Richmond's coach after the game.

Richmond (13-3, 1-0) travels to #8 Burke County Friday, while Baldwin (8-5, 0-1) will visit Thomson.
