Laney sprints into 2015 on an unparalleled streak

During the last five minutes of the New Year's Eve episode of WAGC's AB's Sportsline, host Ashley Brown described the ridiculous run the Laney Wildcats have had during the first 45 days of the 2014-15 high school basketball season.  Even though I have been paying attention the entire time, I was still taken aback by the level of performance good friend Buck Harris and the Laney players have been able to achieve.  I agree with Ashley when he says the team's schedule is the most difficult one a local team has ever faced.  And the Wildcats have navigated it almost flawlessly.  It is obvious the team's slate has been unparalleled.  The results have been, too.  And I have already said that this team's entire body of work by season's end may be end up being the most impressive of any team our area has ever seen.  That said, I keep thinking the Wildcats will inevitably stumble.  If they do, Harris and the guys will undoubtedly handle adversity the right way.

The latest accomplishment for the guys was winning the BMASP Nike Invitational at Berkmar High School.  The Wildcats defeated teams from Florida and Alabama before knocking off the host school in the championship game.  Senior Jashawn Brooks was awarded MVP honors.

It is difficult to explain how impressive the November-December schedule has been for the Wildcats.  But I have done my best along the way.  Now it is time to look forward.  And the road will get no easier.  January's opponents (Jenkins, Butler, Morgan County, Buford, Washington County, Josey, Glenn Hills, Westside, etc) will test the Wildcats every bit as much as those faced the past two months.  This is how it should be!
